A display of the unique vision and style of one of the most beloved writers of recent years, who is able to narrate the spirit of the time that makes us clinging to the end of all hope while deceiving us, yet again, into thinking that reality can still be changed.
The main character is born in the 90s, when everyone had faith in the future, except for him. His parents are ashamed of a son who fills notebooks with an unknown language, who rejects physical contact, who despises people and has angry outbursts. The only place he feels good is in “The Room”, a mental space inhabited by voices, in which no one else can enter but him. He loves the tv like a mother and thinks of the web as a living entity, the only way to salvation for humankind.
After descending into the abysses of horror and violence in the web as a content moderator, he re-emerges with the intention of saving his generation and rebuild the world by bringing it back to the 90s. Around him gather more and more disillusioned millennials, afraid of the present and devoid of the future. They set in a farmhouse in Sicily and build a community where time has stopped to an era with no internet and no mobiles.
With a dark, deeply nihilist, atmosphere, this is one of the best books about social media and internet. Rivista-Studio
