Voices of women who defied Fascism: true stories of resistance, motherhood, clandestinity and bravery, set between convents, secret radios and Abruzzo’s mountains. Nine protagonists, nine fates, all interweaved in the struggle against dictatorship: Alessandrina Ravizza, Anna Kuliscioff, Natalia Ginzburg, Joyce Lussu, Fausta Cialente, Alba de Céspedes, Elsa de’ Giorgi, Lalla Romano, Elsa Morante. In these pages one can sense the tension of those who experienced racial persecution, the fear of bombings, hunger, secrecy. The female Resistance is told by bringing to light the strength of these women against a regime that wanted to confine them to the role of silent mothers.
This fascinating historical journey shows the reader the great contribution these women gave in the antifa fight and in building a fairer society: emblematic lives of women who challenged the strongly patriarchal society of their time through social, political and cultural engagement. Rossana Dedola gives back dignity and remembrance to those women whose memory has been marginalized for far too long.
